Florida State stadium wifi project is for 2016, not 2015

The timetable for implementation is similar to that of the Doak Campbell Stadium construction -- 2016. We saw plenty of confusion on social media about this, and reached out to confirm with Florida State that there will not be stadium wifi in 2015.

The following is a release from IMG:

Tallahassee, FL (September 3, 2015) - Florida State University's Athletic Department today announced it has enlisted IMG to evaluate technology enhancements of the cellular and wireless systems at Doak S. Campbell Stadium.  With a capacity of 82,300, the home of the Seminoles' powerhouse program is among the 15 largest stadiums in all of college football.

IMG College, the multimedia rights partner of FSU, will assist in developing a solution to deliver state-of-the-art wireless connectivity and coverage to fans at Doak Campbell.  The communications enhancements are intended to bolster the stadium's technology infrastructure and to support the ever-increasing data demands of fans at sporting events.

"We want to deliver a cutting-edge game-day experience to our students, alumni, boosters and fans," said Florida State Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox.

Florida State Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing Jason Dennard echoed Wilcox's sentiments.  "Our goal is to give fans a more compelling digital experience, while enabling state-of-the-art stadium operations and receiving useful data and analytics to allow for further improvements."

IMG is collaborating with its DAS partner, DAS Group Professionals (DGP), and its Official Wi-Fi Provider, Extreme Networks, Inc., on this project.

"We're thrilled to work with FSU on the stadium connectivity project aiming to bring fast and reliable wireless to Doak Campbell," said Stewart Marlborough, Head of Digital for IMG College. "We are combining the expertise of DGP and Extreme Networks to deliver a world-class experience to Seminole fans."

"We've seen what advanced connectivity can do for fans - it's tremendous. The excitement we witnessed at the 49ers Levi's Stadium is something we'd like to see at every sports venue. We're so pleased to be called on to apply our expertise at Florida State for the Seminoles fans," said Vince Gamick, Vice-President & COO at DGP.

"Robust Wi-Fi enables professional caliber game-day experiences for fans in the stadium, and allows fans to amplify their experience to those outside the stadium," said Norman Rice, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Corporate Development for Extreme Networks. "Having successfully deployed nine Wi-Fi projects in professional football stadiums, we are in a unique and advantageous position to bring our expertise to the College Sports marketplace."

Better connectivity will allow FSU fans to make and receive calls, texts, tweets and posts on social media without delays or interruption while receiving game-relevant content on their devices such as in-stadium replays, live audio, scores and stats. FSU and its corporate partners will also be able to create strategies that bring greater value to game day in areas such as proximity marketing, fan loyalty and upgrade programs, parking and concessions.
