Awapuhi by Leafy Greens Cafe is the newest concept by Leafy Greens. There have been a few constants in the 12 years we have been open: healthy, whole, plant-based food. We never use refined sugar, gluten, preservatives or GMO food. The latest is that we are now offering a BRUNCH menu along with a FINE DINING menu! These are two completely unavailable options for plant-based dining in the downtown St Pete area. We also have a wonderful line of gourmet teas, coffee and desserts (which are made on the premises) including raw cashew cheeze cake, fresh fruit cobblers, and much more. We have a newly decorated and intimate yet conveniently located space that has outdoor dining available. Our focus is to provide the community with the choices they need to live a healthy, vibrant lifestyle by adding delicious plant-based goodness to their diet. -BYOB too!

Last month, my mom came down to FL for a visit and I whisked her off to St. Pete for some mom & daughter beachside R&R. It's an easy drive from Orlando, but after sitting in the car for a couple hours I was famished. I knew from my visit last year that St. Pete has a lot of great vegan options, but being a Monday and "covid times" I found the options to be slim pickings because lots of the vegan spots are either closed Monday/Tuesday or they were takeout only.
I opted for Leafy Greens because it didn't say on Yelp that they were takeout only, but when I walked in I saw it was actually setup for takeout only. Fortunately, the gentleman that was working that day, Anthony, was kind enough to let us have a seat and dine in. Before I get to the food, can I just say that Anthony made the whole experience for us. I never felt so catered to and welcomed anywhere. I felt like I was in a friend's home because it was just the three of us. He asked us what we would like and told us what he had available. He let us taste everything before preparing and was just so kind and wonderful. I was surprised to learn that Anthony is a volunteer working there too!
We opted to try the Thai Curry Soup and Lettuce Wrap Tacos. Both of which are totally raw foods which I'm still someone new to. Been eating vegan for over a year, but truly raw is another class in itself. The chilled soup was absolutely delicious with ginger, avocado, red bell peppers, cabbage, and zucchini. It was so refreshing! The lettuce wrap was made with cashew hummus, guac, red onion, cabbage, and featured a "meat" made from seasoned walnuts topped with cilantro and a spicy taco sauce. I believe this is their most popular dish.
While we ate, we learned from Anthony a bit about the history of the shop. It was totally raw and vegan for about 9 years, then started adding some cooked vegan items eventually. Construction across the street started to hurt business just before COVID hit so it was almost a double whammy for them. They've stuck it out and gone through a few changes, including adding some animal proteins and cheeses but still offer their raw and vegan staples.
This is definitely a place I will visit again if/when I find myself in St. Pete again. Please go support them and say hi to Anthony if you see him. He's an absolute gem. :)Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0 - Jul 14, 2020
This was a cute little cafe that I happened to stumble upon while I was checking out a store down the block.
Yay St. Pete for having so many vegan / vegetarian friendly places! I am loving the new vibe since making the move from Tampa.
They have a a two-sided menu - Teas on one side and a 'brunch' or dinner (depending on the time - brunch ends at 3) on the other side.
I happened to stop in around 1:30PM, so brunch it was. While not an extensive menu, they hit a few fan favorites (French toast anyone?)
I chose the egg salad sandwich. She was kind enough to let me try it before buying - great customer service right there! For the sandwich & side of grapes - the total came to about $10 with tax.
I'm a 90% vegan, so while the egg salad wasn't the 'real' deal, it came pretty close! The dill flavor and the texture is there.
The homemade pickles were my favorite part of the sandwich - I am definitely ordering extra next time!
Also, on a gluten free sourdough bread? Triple points! The bread didn't fall apart and was rather delicious.
Side note: the grapes were fresh and did not have to throw even one out due to it not looking right... y'all know what I mean.
Nobody should walk away hungry here!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Nov 12, 2017
It's been awhile since I've been to leafy greens. I use to go to the original location and I remember loving their food back then.
We decided to grab lunch at leafy greens since it's been a long time.
My friend ordered the bbq sandwhich, I think it was their special of the day. I decided on the Caprese sandwhich on pretzel bread and we ordered the buffalo roasted cauliflower with pesto.
The roasted cauliflower was great, it was very buffalo flavored but it did have good flavor and went well with the pesto. It was my favorite item but $9 was a bit high for califlower.
My friends sandwhich was accompanied by homemade kimichi. He said the sandwhich ok, not very buffalo . It was lightly seasoned with a sauce on it. It eas served on a normal seeded hamburger bun.He said it didn't taste buffalo but he really like the kimchi. I had a bite of the kimichi and it was really good.
The Caprese sandwhich was good but small for $10 and didn't come a side .
The service was ok, I had to ask for ice multiple times for my warm glass of water. The server had three tables and seemed to be having a hard time but it could have been because we basically sat down with in a minute of each other. She was very nice and once she got every ones order in things got better .
Thankfully we had a groupon because the prices are a bit high for the portions. We probably won't be back due to other vegan option with about the same price point but better portions .Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 2482251805Aug 11, 2018
Went for lunch to Leafy Greens Cafe and it is a small healthy cafe in St Pete. Only about 5 tables inside and a few outside. Lots of tea, gluten free, and vegan food options. Slightly high in price for what you get but I get it since it's healthier options. The impossible burger is beef based and was quite tasty! I didn't expect it to be but it had good flavor. The "side salad" it came with was on the smaller portion but still ok. I seen their taco salad come out to other people and it was huge! This little place really gets busy!
I love how the tea came! I ordered it iced and it came in this cup and cup of ice on the side and you put it on top of the cup and it poured out from the bottom! (Never knew these existed so I was fascinated) Tea price was super reasonable for only $3!
The peanut butter pie was the dessert special (only dessert they offered) for $8 and it was thick and good but not so sure I would spend $8 on it again.
Next time totally getting the taco salad and trying out more of their different teas!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Lauren H.Saint Petersburg, FL382671105Jun 12, 2020
Really happy to try this place! I got the gluten free VEGAN French toast and it was delectable. The berry compote on top was warm and sweet. The French toast itself tasted just like regular French toast yummmm! My friend got the tacos and they were huge! The walnut meat was quite tasty. They also have a wide selection of teas to choose from. The dining area is quaint and the service is excellent!

Food has gotten worse each time I came. Lacked service, and lacked taste.
Also whoever owns this business or controls their Facebook, obviously are not nice people. Would not want to support a business who leaves nasty comments on my post putting down other very young woman's business/desserts. Support one another! Not cool.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 24, 2019Previous reviewLooked local, small and cute. Decided to come in a chose the Vegan taco salad which was huge!! Prices are extremely fair and the presentation is cute, can't wait to keep coming back!

Walked into the small cafe not realizing it was vegan (which wasn't a problem at all). Service came quickly and we ordered some loose leaf iced teas. I got the lemon cloud and it was one of the most delicious teas I've ever consumed. Light and vanilla with a hint of citrus. I also ordered the zucchini spaghetti with marinara. It was huge! The noodles were raw and crisp and the marinara was served around the bowl instead of on top, which I really enjoyed. Very well balanced and filling!
My boyfriend ordered the carrot cake and let me tell you... it was decadent. Wowza. A must get!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 28, 2017
Love love love this cafe! It is conveniently located on central across from Fusion 1560 apartment buildings. Plenty of street parking.
The cafe is very quaint and there are 5 or 6 tables inside the small space. The kitchen is open and you are able to see your food being prepared, which always makes me feel reassured everything is up to code and the place is clean.
I have visited this place 3 different times and have ordered the "real deal" sandwich every time. It is made on this heavenly dehydrated onion bread, slathered with housemade guacamole and hummus, and topped with fresh sprouts, lettuce, and tomato. I could eat one of these sandwiches every day! I have also tried the cold Thai soup. It was really delicious and healthy, but it was extremely garlicky and smelled up my office at work the next day (whoops!!). I tried the Udon noodles from their new menu last night and really liked them as well. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the Hoisin sauce was very flavorful. It is topped with mushrooms and sprouts but I wish they included more veggies in the dish (perhaps some baby corn, red peppers or broccoli...) The portion size of the Udon noodles is very large, but everything else at Leafy Greens is pretty expensive for the amount of food you receive.
Beware - if you have a Groupon they are finicky about redeeming them. I was told that my Groupon could only be used for dine-in when in clearly stated on the Groupon, "redeemable for take-out or dine-in"... The woman who checked me out said she would get in trouble with the owner if she redeemed my Groupon and refused to take it. I had to politely argue with her for a minute or two before she would ring it up.
All in all, I would highly recommend this spot for both raw vegans and meat eaters alike!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 9581364727Nov 3, 2015
Wonderful commitment to raw cuisine. The options are fresh, creative and tasty. Vegetarian or not, this is something to be experienced and appreciated,
The menu offers great options. We had the good fortune of visiting this place during a glorious Sunday afternoon and chose an outside table. By all means, have the dessert, totally worth it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
